about

All of these songs appeared suddenly and very quickly; all except one in a six week period. Each was recorded immediately and in some cases it was less than two hours between the first idea and the finished product. Whilst I accept that they may sound rushed and sharp edged, it felt like the instancy was an important part of the songs.

This is the first time I’ve put my own name to a collection of songs rather than hide behind the names ‘the dolphin post’ and ‘School of the Arts’. This isn’t because the songs are intrinsically more personal - although some do feel it, but more that I feel this is the most natural group of songs I have recorded and am exposed in the arrangements. I’ve not tried to hide my voice in fx as I often do to hide its plain failings.

As with ‘the dolphin post’ I’ve intentionally limited the instrumentation around the songs to give a cohesive ‘band’ approach, but once again everything is played by me. Everything has been played on Variax and Fender electric / electronic guitars with all accordians, french horns and cellos coming through the Fender controlled Roland guitar synth.

Oh and Cwtch is not only a mistyped ‘catch’ - it’s also a Welsh word for a hug and was featured in the Guardian as one of the 10 nicest words of the English (sic!) language.
